Where the Hell Is Christi?

Remember the game Where in theWorld is Carmen SanDiego? Well, now you can play the game with me.  No not really, I just have been missing from the blog world for a very long time.  I don't know why. Work is keeping me busy and I just don't feel like getting on the computer when I get home.  That is my excuse and I am sticking to it!

I completed Redman a couple of weeks ago.  I didn't do the tri but rather the aquabike.  True to Christi form I injured myself and got sick about a month out from the race.  Did you know that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?  Yep, that is me.  I continue to train completely wrong and expecting that I won't get hurt or sick before a race.  Whoops!  If anyone of my blog buddies would like to take me on as a training project I am completely amenable for some advice!  Anyway the race was so much fun.  My plan is to do it next year but to do the 1/2 triathlon.

In other news, my son is about 2 weeks out from basic training.  I am so excited and nervous for him.  I remember very vividly my basic training.  I enjoyed every minute of it but it wasn't easy.  I am sure he will be fine because come on if I can do it then anyone can do it!  I am going to miss him terribly but it will be nice to not worry about him every night.  Oh wait that probably won't go away!

I have already started thinking about my races for next year and in fact have signed up for two events already.  Yep, I am doing the Platte River 1/2 marathon in April and the Colfax 1/2 marathon in May.  I am considering the Chilly Cheeks duathlon series this winter, IM Kansas and Redman.  I want to make next year a great year!  Now to get my butt back to the gym again.  Seriously does anyone want to coach a really stubborn athlete?  You can yell at me and everything!  I just need a drill sergeant to help me get my act together!  Liz or KC???  Anyway, I am excited for a new year with new goals with me rockin' some great races!

Okay, another thing I have been working on is my running gait.  I am trying to move from being a heel striker to more of a fore foot runner.  I am starting real slow.  I have been doing it for a week now and so far I think it is getting better.  I can tell because my calves have been feeling it.  I have moved into Saucony shoes with less support and I am not using my orthotics.  I ran .5 miles the first day and have inched up the mileage to a mile over this week.  I don't run more than 2 days in a row.  My goal is to move to Newton shoes but first must modify my gait or it's just not worth the price of the shoes if I don't.  I will just be a bad runner in really minimal shoes.

Well, that is all I got for now.  I hope all y'all are well or at least anyone that is still reading my blog!  Until later keep running, riding and swimming to your personal greatness!

  2. You have been not blogging. SHAME ON YOU!!! Don't you know our blogs are way more important than our stupid jobs? ;)

I will give you a discussion I had with a girl I see a lot when I run. I told her, I wasn't running the Marathon in a couple weeks. I told her I just wasn't motivated. I was going through the motions. She said she was the same way. This year was a real struggle for her. Just doing the same old training thing.

Where that goes I don't know, but now I feel I want to get better. Be a better runner, and start getting thoughts of PR's again.

Sometimes we need a little help to get the fire within again. It leaves sometimes.

    Good Luck, and keep training.

    1. I understand Steve! Sometimes we do need a fire again to get going. I think my Redman pics are that fire for me! Damn I look fat!

I hope you are well and good luck with your training!

  3. Be careful what you ask for (insert evil laugh here). Maybe Liz (I don't know who Liz is) would like to do a WWE style tag team coaching smack down? By the way, you stole my excuse for not blogging! Work is kicking my ass but i'll be damned if I let it alter my training.

    1. I enjoyed the race a great deal! The organizers did a great job. The water level of the lake was low because of the drought so we had to go out to the middle of the lake. Thus, we had quite a run back in red mud to the transition. The other thing was the roads were rough but not as rough as Austin. They can't really do much with that either because most county roads in Oklahoma are rough. I would recommend the race.

  7. Welcome back to Blogland. We missed your posts. Glad you have already a racing plan for the next year.
I learned the lesson not to run more than 2 days in a row many years ago.
